Heathpatch Ltd (“Heathpatch”) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Mauldons Ltd (“Mauldons”) which includes all of the brewing production, and the distribution channels, and also the Brewery Tap, Mauldons’ public house on East Street, Sudbury.

The brewery, changing hands for only the third time, dates back to 1795, when the Mauldon family set up a brewery at the Bull Hotel in Ballingdon, Sudbury. In the year 2000 Stephen and Alison Sims bought the Brewery and in 2004 the Brewery moved to its new premises, 13 Churchfield Road, Sudbury. It is here that the team have continued to build and develop the award winning real ale brand that it is now. Stephen and Alison, after 19 successful years at Mauldons, have decided it was time to retire from the industry.

Heathpatch, also owning The Bildeston Crown and The Lindsey Rose, is excited at the future growth opportunities that Mauldons has over the next 5 years and beyond. Heathpatch have committed to keeping on all the current staff including Head of Brewing, Steve Birch to maintain the high quality of beer being produced. Charlie Buckle will be taking over Stephen Sims’ role as Managing Director at the Sudbury offices.

Commenting on the deal, Stephen Sims, Managing Director at Mauldons, said: “Alison and I are delighted to have sold our family business to Heathpatch. It has been a fantastic journey over the last 19 years, but the time is now right for us to retire. We would like to thank all of our staff, past & present, for all the hard work and loyalty over the years, we would not have enjoyed the success we have had without them. It was important for us to sell our business to someone with the necessary enthusiasm and commitment to drive the business forward, and we are certain Charlie Buckle and his team will continue the growth and success of the company.”

“We are pleased to have moved in to a new line of business, that further strengthens our position in the hospitality sector in Suffolk. The high quality of product, alongside the teams, at both the brewery and The Brewery Tap, makes for a very interesting prospect for the future. With the arable farm owned by Heathpatch, we intend to use our own malting barley & hops. Eventually aiming to produce a completely environmentally friendly and sustainable product.”
