Updated 14th July: Wow! We didn't realise that this tour would be so popular. We have already reached our maximum of 50 people and the walk is now full. If you are interested, please still email us and we will start a waiting list. We may even arrange another date if the interest warrants it.

Earlier this year on World Book Day we posted about a lovely book that we had published:

'Raydon Wood 1999-2022 - A celebration of 20 years of restoration management'

Front cover of the book about Raydon Wood showing photos from the wood.

Raydon Great Wood is a 200-acre ancient woodland to the south of Hadleigh, Suffolk. It has been a labour of love for all involved since it came into the Heathpatch family in 1998. At that time, the wildlife seemed to have moved out, following the clear-felling of many parts and the restocking with non-native conifers, hybrid poplars, red oak and sycamore by the previous owners.

James Buckle's vision was to restore the wood to as close to ancient woodland as possible. Following nearly 3 decades of incredible hard work, amazing results have been achieved. A wonderful selection of wildlife and plant life have returned to the wood. Many species of birds, bees, butterflies, hares, stoats, deer, orchids, anemones, primrose, bugle, speedwell and much more have taken up residence again in Raydon Great Wood. The book and its many photos bears witness to this restoration of the wood's fortunes.

The publication of this book has inspired us to open the wood to our neighbours and friends for one evening only. Normally the wood must remain private and not open to the public due to safety issues associated with managing the wood and also to protect the thriving colonies of flora and fauna.

On the evening of Tuesday, 29th July, we would like to invite you on a guided walk through the wood. Get among the trees and learn about the work that has been done over the years. See the results for yourselves. Your guides will be our woodsmen who live and breathe this glorious space.

You will need to be on your feet for an hour or two. Sadly, the walk is not suitable for those with mobility issues. We would also ask that you do not bring any small children.

Numbers will be limited so booking is essential. There will be no charge.

Please email: info@dairyfarmoffice.co.uk to book your spot, saying how many people you are bringing and please give your phone number. Full details of the meeting time and location will be provided in due course.
